    "Umineko no naku koro ni" o "Cuando las gaviotas lloran" es la suceción número 3 de la serie "when they cry", conformada igualmente por "Higurashi no naku koro ni".

    La historia se basa en el año de 1986 en la isla de Rokkenjima, un gran magnate que vive en ella, Kinzo Ushiromiya, está a punto de morir, pero, ¿Quién heredará toda su fortuna y será la cabeza de la familia Ushiromya?.

     Para hacer frente a este problema, un 4 de octubre llegan a la isla ocho miembros de la rama principal del clan, donde los adultos conciben debatir el destino de la herencia y llegar a un acuerdo. Sólo el mayor de los hijos de Kinzo, que son un total de cuatro, vive en la isla junto con su familia, sirvientes y un médico personal.

    Llegado un tifon a la isla, comienzan a suceder extrañas muertes, que segun se dice, los comete la bruja dorada "Beatrice", quien otorgó a Kinzo Ushiromiya toneladas de oro, y regresa por lo que otorgó más el interes.
